Community Guidelines

These guidelines cover how you treat other people on Pickle. They apply to listings, messages, reviews, profile content, hand-offs, and anything else you do on the platform or in connection with a Pickle transaction. They apply to renters, lenders, buyers

Treat people with respect

Disagreements happen, especially around damage and returns. You can disagree with someone and still be civil. What is not allowed:

Harassment. Sending cruel, threatening, or demeaning messages. Continuing to contact someone after they have asked you to stop. Repeatedly messaging someone with no reasonable purpose related to a transaction.

Doxxing. Sharing someone's private information, including their address, phone number, workplace, employer, or social media accounts, whether you found it on Pickle or elsewhere.

Threats. Threats of violence, threats to show up somewhere, or threats to damage someone's property or reputation.

Pile-ons. Organizing or joining a group action against a specific user, on Pickle or off it. This includes coordinating reports, reviews, or messages.

Block evasion. Creating a new account or using someone else's to contact a person who has blocked you.

Slurs and hate speech. Content that attacks or demeans people based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, disability, age, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression. This applies even when framed as a joke.

Sexual content. Unsolicited sexual messages, comments on someone's body, or sexual content in listings, photos, or profiles. Fashion involves bodies. Commentary on other people's bodies is a different thing.

Treat the Pickle Team & Support Agents with Respect

Everything above applies when communicating with people who work for Pickle and support Pickle transactions, not just to other renters and lenders.

That means our support agents, our moderation and trust and safety team, our stylists, our store staff, and anyone else at Pickle.

What is not acceptable, whatever the underlying situation:

  • Slurs, insults, or demeaning language directed at anyone doing their job

  • Threats of any kind, including threats to a person's safety, their employment, or their immigration status

  • Sexual comments, propositions, or unwanted personal remarks

  • Screaming at, berating, or repeatedly contacting an individual agent

  • Naming, targeting, or posting about an individual employee or driver, on Pickle or anywhere else

  • Contacting our team through their personal accounts, personal email, social media, or in person. Support conversations happen through the app

Consequences for not Treating the Pickle Team Accordingly

Our support agents can end a conversation that has become abusive, and they do not need to ask permission first. If that happens you will still get a resolution on your case, either in writing or from a different member of the team. Ending an abusive conversation is not the same as refusing to help you, and your open order or claim does not go away.

Beyond that, we may limit who can provide you support, restrict your access to messaging, suspend your account, or close it permanently. Threats and slurs directed at anyone, staff or otherwise, can result in permanent closure on a first instance.

Do not discriminate

You can decline any offer for any ordinary reason. You do not owe anyone an explanation for declining, and you never have to transact with someone who makes you uncomfortable.

What you cannot do is decline, cancel, charge differently, or treat someone worse because of their race, color, ethnicity, national origin, religion, disability, age, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, marital status, or pregnancy.

You also cannot state a preference along those lines. This includes:

  • Language in a listing or profile signalling who you will or will not rent to

  • Asking a renter to send a photo of themselves before you accept an offer

  • Using a renter's name, photo, or profile to make assumptions and then declining

  • Applying stricter conditions to one renter than you would to another in the same situation

If you receive a message like this, report it. We treat these reports seriously and we review them ourselves rather than asking you to work it out with the other person.

Spam and solicitation

  • Do not use listings, messages, or reviews to advertise anything other than the item

  • Do not ask other users for donations, tips, or financial help

  • Do not run giveaways, raffles, or contests through Pickle

  • Do not create listings that exist to collect money rather than rent or sell an item

  • Do not use automation, scripts, or bots on Pickle

Reporting

Report through email at [email protected]. Include the username, what happened, and screenshots if you have them.

Filing reports you know to be false is a violation in itself.

Enforcement

Depending on what happened and whether it has happened before, we may:

  • Remove the content or the listing

  • Issue a formal warning

  • Restrict messaging, listing, renting, or payouts

  • Suspend the account temporarily

  • Close the account permanently
