How to Upload Items to Your Closet

Getting your items listed well is the most important step to a successful rental experience on Pickle. Follow this guide to set your listing up for maximum visibility, trust, and protection.

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Step 1: Go to My Closet

Tap the My Closet tab and press the (+) button to add a new item.

Step 2: Add a Title

Use a clear, searchable title that includes the brand name and item name.

  • Rat and Boa Adrianna Dress

  • Realisation Par Naomi Skirt

  • Pretty green dress

A good title helps renters find your item when searching by brand or style.

Step 3: Upload High Quality Photos

Good photos are the single biggest factor in whether your item gets rented. Include:

  • Photos of you or a friend wearing the item — listings with on-body photos rent significantly more often

  • Front and back shots

  • Close-ups of any notable details (embellishments, fabric texture, straps)

  • Photos of any existing wear or imperfections — being upfront builds trust and protects you from disputes

If your item has any flaws, photograph them clearly. Sending out an item that is not as described can result in a refund to the renter and you may be liable for delivery and return costs.

Step 4: Add Product Details

Be as specific as possible. Include:

  • Brand and item name

  • Size — always list the size on the tag. If the item fits differently than the tag size, note this clearly in the description (e.g. "Tagged size 10 but fits more like an 8")

  • Color and fabric

  • Seasonality

  • Condition — be honest about any wear, alterations, or repairs

  • Fit notes — height of model, whether it runs long/short, bodycon vs. relaxed, etc.

The more detail you provide, the fewer questions you'll receive — and the less likely a renter is to return the item.

Step 5: Declare Retail Value

When listing your item, you must declare its accurate retail value. This is important for two reasons:

  1. Courier and carrier insurance — if your item is lost or damaged during delivery, the declared retail value is what is used when filing a claim. Adding or updating a retail value after a loss does not qualify for coverage.

  2. Your protection tier — your Replacement Value Payout eligibility is based on your item's value. See: Pickle Protection Policy: Lender / Owner

Please note:

  • Items valued over $2,000 are not eligible for courier delivery

  • Items valued over $10,000 cannot be shipped

Do not undervalue items to reduce shipping insurance costs — doing so limits Pickle's ability to assist you if something goes wrong.

Step 6: Keep Proof of Purchase

Before listing, make sure you have receipts, order confirmations, or other documentation for your items — especially anything valued over $500. Without documentation, your Replacement Value Payout may be capped if an item is lost, stolen, or damaged beyond repair.

Accepted documents include store receipts, bank or credit card statements, brand gifting emails, authentication reports from Entrupy or RealAuthentication, or photos of original item tags. See the full breakdown in: Pickle Protection Policy: Lender / Owner

Step 7: Set Your Pricing and Preferences

  • Price rentals at 10–20% of retail price for maximum demand

  • You can always counter offers from renters

  • Set your fit refund preference: 100%, 50%, none, or upon request — this is displayed to renters on your listing

Step 8: Complete Your Condition Report

Before sending your item out for its first rental, complete a condition report in the app. Photograph the item and note any existing wear. Repeat this each time the item is returned. This is your most important tool for protecting yourself in any dispute.

Tips for a Successful Listing

  • Items with on-body photos rent more frequently

  • Honest, detailed descriptions reduce returns and disputes

  • Keeping receipts means faster, fuller payouts if something goes wrong

  • Accurate retail values protect you through the full courier and carrier insurance process

  • Never list items of sentimental or irreplaceable value — replacements are based on resale value, not emotional worth
